Winc Wine Club Review
As more and more wine clubs come into the market, each is trying to find a way to differentiate itself.
Back in 2012, a startup that we now know as Winc, was making its mark by being a leader in the personalized wine club space. (At that time, the company was named “ClubW”. In 2016, we watched as they changed their name to Winc, and expanded to begin sourcing and making their own wines.)
Winc is a unique wine club.
Normally, wine of the month clubs source and buy wine in massive quantities (getting a “bulk discount”) from various vendors or wineries, and then simply package these selections each month for their subscribers. They will repeat this process every month, sharing their favorite wines with their customers.
Most wine clubs offer some level of “personalization”, by allowing the customer to self-determine their preferred wines, or wine varietals. For example, you may prefer to purchase a “Red Wine Only” Wine of the Month Club, because you only want to receive red wines.
Winc personalizes each shipment to each customer, every month.
However, with Winc, you are asked a series of non-wine-related questions, like, “How do you like your coffee?”, or “What is your favorite type of chocolate”. It's a very quick and fun interactive quiz. Some of the answers you can select are fun or silly, like when you're asked about mushrooms, one of the answers is “Yeah, I'll pretty much eat dirt”.

It's pretty clever, and honestly, a fun introduction to their brand and their wine club.
The point of this “quiz”? To determine the kind of wine you'd probably enjoy.
Here's a preview of their quick and simple “quiz”. (They may change it from time to time. This is current as of March, 2020)
The Winc Wine Club Personalization Quiz

Winc Wine Club – their quiz personalizes your wine deliveries. (Even questions about salt and mushrooms!)

The final question, the 6 of 6 questions asks about your general “adventurousness” when it comes to food and drink.
Ordering Winc Wine Club is easy! (And we have the best coupon available)
So, when you first visit Winc, you are asked a series of questions about foods, scents, and tastes that will help them develop your Palate Profile. Rather than just choosing “reds” or “whites” or even specific varietals, you will be creating a profile from which they will recommend a number of different wines for you. You then choose which of those wines you want included in your shipment.

Deliveries from Winc Wine Club
Each shipment is called a “Monthly Experience,” although you can choose how often the shipments are sent. 3 bottle shipments will cost you $6 in shipping but shipments with 6 bottles or more are shipped free. Most of the wines available cost $13, making them a nice middle range price.
Using the Winc App to Further Personalize Your Wine Club
When you receive your first shipment, you are encouraged to download the Winc app to find tasting notes and also rate your wines. You can find the same information on the website, but the app is handy. Rather than receiving written tasting notes, you will find them all electronically. In addition, you can watch a video for every bottle of wine, and the video will explain more about the wine and how to pair it.
After you rate your wines, your Palate Profile will be updated so that every subsequent shipment can be even more personalized. In addition, you can see if you can reorder any of the wines that you previously enjoyed.
Is Winc a good gift?
If you want to send a Winc Wine Club gift, you will need to do it via gift certificate. You can choose either email or postal mail. The postal mail option is on nice embossed paper. Your recipient will then create his or her own Palate Profile and be able to order wine recommendations based on that profile.
