Located in the northernmost corner of New England, the wine industry of Maine is young and fruity. Due to the state’s cold climate, it is not a particularly ideal setting for viticulture, though a limited number of wineries have begun to experiment with French hybrid varietals. Consequently, the majority of Maine’s wine production is centered around the state’s famous fruit industry, using produce such as blueberries, cranberries, apples and pears to make wine. The state currently has 27 licensed wineries and distilleries, producing over 100,000 cases annually. As hybrid varietals continue to be engineered for cold climates, the wine industry of Maine has a promising future.
And, if you're not looking to drink the local wines, but rather would like great wine delivered to your door, then consider one of our favorite wine clubs that ship to Maine.
