Amazing Clubs has been in business since 2003, with its business model focusing more broadly on gift-giving than wine specifically. Because of that, we are focusing our review on the aspects most important to those who are reading this review because they are considering sending the Amazing Clubs Wine of the Month Club as a Gift.
Getting Started
Because Amazing Clubs offers just one Wine of the Month Club, the landing page and ordering process are very straight-forward. You are choosing either 2 or 4 bottles a month. For varietals, you can choose 2 red, 2 white, or 1 of each. One nice thing to note is that if you choose 2 red or 2 white, they will be DIFFERENT. With some clubs, you just get 2 of the same.
For shipping frequency, your options are once a month or every other month. However, you can also choose what month you want it to start. If you wait until too late in the month, you may need to start it the next month because they can run out of their selections for that month.
Duration options are where you have a lot of choice. You can choose ongoing if you want to pay monthly and just keep getting the club as long as you want. If you are doing a one-time payment (best for gifts), you can choose to have 3 deliveries, 4 deliveries (seasonal), 6 deliveries, or 12 deliveries. The price stays the same per delivery no matter how many you choose.
In terms of coupons and deals, free shipping on every delivery is a huge savings given that many clubs add on an additional $20 a shipment there. They also run their best coupons right on their site, so you don’t have to go out searching. I’ve seen as high as 30% off, which they will add without any coupon being needed.
The monthly price is currently $53.95, or $37.76 with the 30% off. This makes a total 3 month gift $113.29 with free shipping.
What’s in the Box
The outside of my box made it clear that it was a gift from Amazing Clubs. Only the smaller shipping notice on it denoted that it was wine specifically. The wine was packaged securely to prevent breakage. But the best part of what the box contained (besides the wine!) was the newsletter called “Bunch of Grapes.”
“Bunch of Grapes” is the Wine of the Month Club monthly newsletter that comes with every delivery. In any given month it will include winemaker profiles, tasting notes, winery histories, and food pairing ideas for the wines in the shipment. Whether you are ordering this club for yourself or as a gift, this newsletter will make the wine shipment so much better! I love knowing more about a wine before I drink it.
In addition to the information specific to the shipment, there is helpful general information about your membership (how to cancel, shipping concerns, etc). I love this ease and transparency!
The Wine
Amazing Clubs sources its wines from boutique, family-owned wineries from all over the world. They have an “independent advisory board of wine professionals” that selects all of their wines.
I chose the one red, one white variety for my shipment. My two wines were:
Miguel Flores Malbec (La Rioja, Argentina)
Sourced from high-altitude vineyards northwest of Mendoza, this Argentine Malbec features aromas of ripe blackberry, plum, violet, cocoa, and sweet spice. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with concentrated dark-fruit flavors, velvety tannins, fresh acidity, and a smooth finish that has earned multiple international competition medals. Pair it with grilled steak, roast lamb, barbecue, empanadas, or sharp cheeses.
Benton Hills Chardonnay (Columbia Valley, Washington)
Crafted in eastern Washington by the Monson family, this Chardonnay opens with aromas of green apple, pear, lemon oil, and a flinty mineral note. The palate delivers bright flavors of fresh lemon, honeydew melon, pineapple, and citrus zest supported by a round mouthfeel, crisp acidity, and a clean finish. It pairs well with grilled salmon, roast chicken, crab cakes, creamy pasta dishes, and herb-roasted pork.
I love the contrast between these two selections– an international and a domestic. A wine for heavy foods and a wine for lighter foods. It’s a great way to try completely different wines.
The Membership
Membership is straight-forward based on whether you are paying monthly to have it continue or paying for all of it up-front for a set number of shipments. There are no additional add-ons or surprise charges. If you are paying monthly, you can pause or skip shipment months. If you are unhappy with your membership but have paid in advance, you can cancel and get a refund for any unshipped wine.
Amazing Clubs Gift Options
As I mentioned at the top, Amazing Clubs really shines as a gift option for many reasons.
First, you can choose the occasion of the gift: Father’s Day, Birthday, Housewarming, Wedding, Anniversary, Congratulations, Thank You, Love, Just Because, Sorry, Thinking of You.
Second, you can combine their other non-wine clubs to make a more customized gift. Third, you can schedule what month you want shipments to start (they always go out the last week of the month) but have a personalized gift announcement sent to let them know a gift is coming. You can have this announcement mailed or emailed, or you can even print it out yourself. It’s better than a gift certificate because it shows them exactly what they will be getting and when. Plus a little note from you.
Summary
Amazing Clubs is an OG, traditional wine club that gives you exactly what you expect as a gift. Ordering is straight-forward with some flexibility in club frequency and duration. The monthly price is one of the lowest recurring club prices in the business while also including the extra touch of a newsletter that educates about the wines in the shipment. As a gift, it is perfect for last-minute gift giving as well as scheduling months in advance.
