Choosing the best wine for Easter can be nerve racking, especially if you're hosting guests who are more familiar with wine pairing than you may be. Here are some tips for selecting a wine that goes well with Easter dinner.
As you welcome your guests, offer them a glass of sparkling (or bubbly) wine. We'll be serving a Mondoro Asti before our Easter dinner. For added elegance, drop one or two fresh raspberries into the glass and watch them dance in the bubbles.
If ham is the centerpiece of your Easter dinner, choose a Riesling or, more specifically, a Gewurztraminer (you'll find these alongside the Rieslings at your local wine store). Rieslings are typically enjoyed by most wine drinkers, with Gewurztraminer being sweeter varietal. Both wines reflect the spring season, with warmer temperatures and fresh life sprouting up all around.
Lamb is a traditional Easter dish, often served with mint jelly or sauce. When serving lamb, opt for a red wine such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinot Noir. Personally, I'd lean towards the Pinot as its a favorite of mine, and can be enjoyed well after dinner has finished.
If you're serving Easter brunch instead of dinner, you can still find wines to enjoy in Mimosas or Sangrias. For Mimosas, pick up the same Mondoro Asti as you'd use with appetizers at dinner, and mix with orange juice. If you're making Sangria instead, use a red wine: Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, or Shiraz.
