Sending Wine Gifts for Mother’s Day

My mom and I love drinking wine together. Even though we live VERY far apart, we get together for wine tastings at least once a year (usually at Cooper's Hawk).

If you are considering sending wine as a gift, it's not too late (literally even if you are reading this post on Mother's Day).

How Do I Choose Which Wine to Send Mom?

There are a few things that we always tell our readers no matter what the holiday is and who they are sending the wine to.

  • Know what state you are sending the wine to. Every state is different and the laws are complicated. If you want to start just by looking at which wine clubs ship to which state, you can check out our ship-to-state pages.
  • Determine your price point. You can send a $25 wine gift card or spend hundreds of dollars on a recurring gift. No matter your price range, you will be able to find something.
  • Decide whether you want to send a wine gift or a wine club. A wine club focuses primarily on the wine (including tasting notes, food pairings, etc) and may arrive as many times as you want to pay for. A wine gift will include wine but may be just bottles by themselves or bottles with other treats and will arrive only once.

Top Choices for Wine Clubs

Within the wine clubs, you will need to choose red, white, or mixed wines. You can even focus on something like sweet wines (which is my mom's preference). Here are our current favorites:

Prices on these are going to start around $40 plus shipping, which would be for one shipment. You can then price upwards if you would like her to receive multiple months. Many of them also include a gift email or printable.

Top Choices for Wine Gifts

Wine Gifts tend to change a lot, but here are a few great options with deals that we found in the last week:

  • Cratejoy: Take 25% off select gifts with code MOM25 at checkout (ends May 11). Their selections include gifts that do include wine (so watch for shipping states) but also wine-related boxes that can ship anywhere.
  • The California Wine Club: Although they specialize in Wine Clubs, they do also have “bundles” that are a single shipment. An example is their Chardonnay Bundle, which is 3 bottles of Chardonnay for $83. Their “Good Friends Gift Set” is $55 and comes in red organza bags.
  • Winebasket.com: Use their Gift Selector to find the perfect gift for mom. Many gifts baskets include wine AND free shipping. You can get really specific on their site with what is included with the wine–snacks, spa items, etc.

Whatever wine you choose to send, remember that what she really wants is for you to spend time drinking it with her!
