The Best Wine Clubs That Ship To Mississippi

Like many other southern states, Mississippi’s hot and humid climate is not particularly well-suited to grape growing. In fact, it is nearly impossible to grow vinifera varietals and French hybrids in Mississippi. Instead, vintners primarily grow Muscadine grapes, a native variety that thrives in the state’s sultry climate. Typically, Muscadine grapes are used to produce sweet desert wines, jams and jellies. While the state’s climate is certainly an obstacle,

winemakers also must overcome antiquated alcohol policies. Interestingly, Prohibition was not repealed in Mississippi until 1966, and many counties are still dry to this day. Nevertheless, the state is home to the Mississippi Delta American Viticultural Area, a winegrowing region established in 1984 that encompasses parts of the Mississippi Delta and portions of the watershed surrounding the lower Mississippi River. This AVA also includes land in Louisiana and Tennessee. Among efforts to propel the state’s wine industry into the 21st century, Mississippi State University formed an enology laboratory to conduct viticultural research. Nevertheless, with only three commercial wineries currently operating, Mississippi has a modest wine industry.

And if you're not looking for wineries or locally-produced wine, then consider ordering a wine club that can ship to Mississippi!
